‘New trends in Anterior Segment Surgery’ is the title of the monographic theme that will bring together ophthalmologists and medical students

Dr. Jorge Alio will be responsible for directing the program of the monograph ‘New trends in Anterior Segment Surgery’, which will take place tomorrow, Saturday, November 24 at The Official College of Physicians of Alicante. ‘These Seminars of Continuing Education in Ophthalmology are aimed at medical faculty students as a complement to their studies, to ophthalmologists in training in order to stimulate their interest in ophthalmic subspecialties and, in general, to professionals who wish to maintain their level of knowledge in the specialty’ explains Jorge Alio, academic of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Valencia (RAMCV).

This is the second session of the Seminar of Continuing Education in Ophthalmology promoted by the Miguel Hernandez University of Elche (UMH), in collaboration with the Official College of Physicians of Alicante, Laboratories  Thea and the Ophthalmic Research Thematic Network OFTALRED, as well as with support of the Ministry of Health and Economy and Competitiveness

The program is directed by Dr. Jorge Alio, the only doctor from Alicante among the 50 best Spanish doctors, according to the list ‘Top Doctors 2018’. It should be reminded, that Jorge Alio, an expert in diseases of the anterior segment of the eye at the international level, was awarded the ‘Life Achievement Honor Award’ by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), being the first Spanish doctor to obtain it, for his brilliant career and contributions to eye surgery and the treatment of eye diseases. Moreover, Dr. Jorge Alio has been ranked twelfth among the world’s most influential ophthalmologists. The list of 100 professionals, entitled ‘The Power List 2018’, was drawn up by the British magazine ‘The Ophthalmologist’, one of the most prestigious publications in the field. Furthermore, he was distinguished with the Alberto Sols Award for the ‘Best Research Work’, and he is the only doctor from Alicante among the 50 best Spanish doctors, according to the list ‘Top Doctors 2018’. It is the third time that Jorge Alio is mentioned in this classification, which is considered to be one of the most prestigious publications.

In this way, Jorge Alio, the professor of Ophthalmology at the Miguel Hernandez University (UMH) of Elche, will inaugurate the seminar at 10.30. After that, Professor Milagros Garcia Barbero, a member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Valencia, will make an introduction speech on ‘Continuing medical education, its relevance and reality’.

It will be followed by the inaugural lecture ‘Current Trends in Cornea Transplant Surgery’ by Dr. Jorge Alio del Barrio, from UMH, who will be also responsible for 12.40 session on the clinical case analysis ’16th Femtosecond laser assisted 4-DLEK ‘ together with Dr. Veronica Vargas.

It should be mentioned, that Dr. Cristina Peris will be responsible for delivering the closing conference ‘Endothelial Corneal Surgery’. Peris is currently the Deputy Medical Director of Mediterranean Ophthalmological Foundation (FOM), the Head of the Cornea and Anterior Segment Diseases Unit and transplant coordinator of FOM. Moreover, several clinical cases will be analyzed during the day.
