The specialist from Alicante gave a keynote lecture on presbyopia surgery at the 39th edition of the ‘Maestro Lecture’.
Prof. Dr Jorge Alió’s aim in taking part in the 39th edition of the ‘Maestro Lecture’ –organised on 17 July as part of the International Conference on Integrative Approaches for Degenerative Disease (INTAGE) by the Indonesian Society of Ophthalmology (PERDAMI)– was to share the latest developments in the surgical treatment of presbyopia. His invitation as the keynote speaker at this online event held in Indonesia reinforces his position as one of the leading international figures in refractive surgery.
Speaking to ophthalmologists from various Asian countries, the Professor of Ophthalmology and Honorary Researcher at the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) in Elche delivered the keynote lecture “Presbyopia Surgery with Intraocular Lenses: The Latest Accommodative IOL (Lumina) and Emerging Technologies in Phakic Presbyopic Lenses”.
Keynote lecture on presbyopia surgery in Indonesia
In his presentation, he analysed the development of presbyopia surgery using intraocular lenses, presenting the clinical results obtained with the innovative Lumina accommodative lens. Jorge Alió has been involved in the development of this ophthalmic innovation for 14 years as principal investigator and director of the clinical trials, and is the only accredited ophthalmologist in Spain capable of implanting it.
The international specialist in the anterior segment also reviewed emerging technologies based on phakic lenses designed to restore near vision whilst preserving ocular physiology. ‘It is important to move towards increasingly personalised solutions, capable of adapting to the specific visual needs of each patient and offering high-quality functional vision at all distances’, explained Dr Alió in his presentation.
