UMH_ElcheThe registration period has been opened for a new edition of the course ‘Methodology in Refractive, Cataract and Corneal Surgery’. This is the fifth edition of the The University Expert in Refractive, Cataract and Corneal Surgery course offered by the Miguel Hernandez University of Elche and directed by Jorge Alio, professor of ophthalmology at the same academic institution.

“This course is aimed at ophthalmologists with a special interest in clinical aspects and research in refractive surgery, and, in general, professionals who want to be updated,” explains Dr. Alio, an expert in diseases of the anterior segment of the eye at the international level.

This seven-month course is divided into six modules and is taught online in English, in order to facilitate a faster and more flexible educational process that would allow reaching a greater number of ophthalmologists. The course covers all the main topics, starting from the basic sciences of refractive surgery, such as ocular anatomy, physiology and optics, to the most advanced and innovative methods of surgical cataract correction, corneal and refractive surgery, along with issues management.

Moreover, this educational program for international ophthalmologists is complemented by clinical practices, a face-to-face course and a compulsory final project. The latter will allow students to demonstrate the acquired skills, apply the methodology and research techniques, along with ophthalmological knowledge which will be obtained during the course. The project will be supervised by researchers and international refractive surgeons.

According to Jorge Alio, who entered the ‘Forbes’ list of the 100 best doctors in Spain, “every person should be provided with the best vision possible in order to be fully productive. And a good exhaustive and rigorous educational program for ophthalmologists leads to the better treatment and resolution of eye problems on national and international levels.”
